Fall Flannels for Mommy and Me
October in the Midwest means flannels, apple orchards, and pumpkin patches. We've been having the best time enjoying fall festivities across Chicagoland and dressing the part while we're at it.
One of our first pumpkin patch visits was to Bengtson's where we wore matching flannels from Old Navy. These are incredibly soft and kept us plenty warm on a 60 degree day. If you need something warmer, Old Navy also has matching shackets available, too!Bengtson's had the perfect amount of toddler friendly activities to keep Addie entertained throughout our morning there. She enjoyed riding in the spinning honey-pots and on the jumping frogs. We spent lots of time on the playground and then relaxed on a brief hayride. Adelaide LOVED the tractor ride where she was able to "drive" and take in all sorts of animatronic sights. She also got to pet lots of animals and run through the pumpkin patch. The haunted house was a little too spooky but the corn pit was the highlight of the day. I recommend visiting on a weekday if you can, since I know it gets very busy on weekends and it can be difficult to get through all you want to explore.
We also had a blast during our annual girls visit to Kuipers. The last time I went, I was pregnant with Addie so it was surreal to see her running around the apple orchard this time. We wore coordinated flannels both from Amazon, and all the girls in our group each picked a different colored flannel to coordinate, too (check out the 7 colors/patterns available). Adelaide's flannel is thick enough to wear as a light jacket (which she's done several times since wearing it to the orchard), and the adult flannels are much thinner. They're the perfect lightweight find to pair with a vest or wear on a warmer fall day.
Kuiper's offers both an apple orchard and pumpkin farm. In addition to apple picking, the orchard side offers a train ride ($5 per passenger) and a country store. We always stock up on fudge, blueberry wine, and apple cider donuts each time we visit. The pumpkin farm offers more activities for toddlers to do (including tires to climb, playgrounds to explore, farm animals, outdoor yard games, and more), so decide ahead of time which area you'd prefer to spend your day since tickets for apple picking and the pumpkin farm are sold separately.
